Volunteer Yoga Teacher Position Description
Introduction
The Yoga Collective of Yakima (YOCO) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and a registered charity with Washington State.
Our studio is open to all, and is located at Glenwood Square, 2nd Floor, in Yakima, WA. Our schedule of classes and special events can be found on our website. We run a 7 day per week studio with a variety of class styles offered.
Our Mission
YOCO is a volunteer-run organization dedicated to providing free yoga and holistic mind, body, and spirit classes to the Yakima community. We strive to support individuals’ personal growth and well-being by making yoga and wellness practices accessible to all, regardless of financial, social or mobility barriers. YOCO is committed to embracing diversity, building community, and promoting mindfulness in all we do.
New Teachers Welcome
If you are a Yoga Teacher or are considering taking the training necessary to become a teacher, we would love to hear from you and invite you to participate in our classes.
Candidates for volunteer teacher positions should review the key elements that contribute to a successful relationship with YOCO:
· Hold relevant certifications, 200 Hour YTT, OR be working toward those credentials, and willing to attend our donation-based classes.
· Demonstrate instruction and teaching style for our Program Director, or team teach with a current teacher in our YOCO community.
· Support our mission and have values that align with aspects of our mission related to personal and public health, community, and social well-being.
Volunteer Role
· Donate your time and knowledge to support the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of others, so that we can make yoga accessible to those who might not be able to afford profit-based studio fees.
· Occasionally lead classes in workplaces and at community events on a volunteer basis or for a modest fee, based on the nature of the agreement.
Teaching at YOCO
· Teachers create and lead classes, guiding students through posture, breathing exercises, and meditation.
· Fostering relationships with students encourages community building.
· Teachers set the tone in our studio, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for students to practice in, ensuring a safe and positive environment.
· Be available to offer individual support to students to help them improve their technique and alignment.
Administrative Responsibilities
· Teachers may teach a regularly scheduled class, serve only in a substitute teacher capacity, or do both of these things. No set number of classes is required.
· They encourage class participants to support the Collective through donations, as this is our primary source of funding to pay for rent, utilities, and other organizational expenses.
· They handle simple administrative tasks like signing students in and depositing donations in our lock box.
· They are expected to attend periodic teacher meetings as well as training sessions to enhance their skills.
